"Guess what guess what guess what!!!" Duo shook Heero's arm excitedly.
Heero stared at him blandly. "I give up. Tell me." he said flatly. Then he scowled. "And let go of my arm, baka!"
Duo spread his arms, beaming. "We're doing a MUSICAL!"
Heero raised an eyebrow. "We?"
"The school, stupid." Duo rolled his eyes expressively and pulled his braid. "And guess which one...?"
"Since you are obviously going to tell me anyway..."
"RENT!!!"
"Oh." Heero shrugged and went back to his school work.
Duo stared at him, surprised by the anticlimatical response. "Don't you know what "Rent" is about?"
"Yes. But, considering I will not be trying out for it, it doesn't really matter to me."
"Ah..." said Duo smiling sneakily. "But that's the thing -- there are no tryouts! It's counting for a grade in our Arts & Humanities class, and the parts will just be picked."
Heero froze. "Picked? Picked by who?" He glared dangerously at the other boy.
"Oh..." Duo said coyly. "The Drama teacher and...an assistant."
Heero stood up. "And *just* who might this assistant be?"
Duo snickered. "That's for me to know you to find out, popsicle head...And I hope you can sing!" He ran out of the room, his laughter following closely behind.
"Omae o korosu!"
Heero sat down sulkily. Dammit.
---
Wufei squirmed in his seat, nervously. At the end of the class the parts would be handed out...he was not looking forward to it. And at the same time, the tension was killing him, Maxwell was behind all this...and therefore, it could be nothing but trouble.
Finally the end-of-class bell rang. Wufei approached the teacher's desk cautiously as though it were a rabid animal. He saw Heero take his script without looking at it. Duo took his, looked at it, pretended to be surprised, and skipped off. Quatre recieved his, looked slightly confused.
Trowa was in front of him. He showed no feeling whatsoever as he glanced at his part...though Wufei supposed he didn't care. And then it was his own turn.
He looked at the sheet topping the script. It read:

WUFEI CHANG: ANGEL DUMOTT SCHUNARD (Major Part)
Lines are highlighted. First rehearsal Friday, after school.
Be Prepared.

Wufei walked down the hallway towards his locker. He was not familiar with this musical. He was a bit perturbed that it was a major part, but perhaps it was not quite so bad. He'd read it once he got to his dorm.
He made himself some tea on the little hotplate in his room. Then he curled up on his bed, fixing the pillows, and flipped through the script, looking for the highlighted lines that would point out his first scene. He spied them almost at once - he was in one of the first few.
As Wufei read, his face slowly went pale. It couldn't - no - they wouldn't do a musical like *that* in school! But...
Desparately he searched for his next scene.
"M-mmmm-MAXWELL!"
Wufei passed out.
--
Quatre frowned, his brows knitting.
"But..." He shook his head. "Why ever would they pick *me* to play Benny?! He's so...so mean!"
--
Trowa just didn't understand. There must have been some mistake...he should have been given a place with the crew -- perhaps in the band. He didn't even understand his character -- this Mark Cohen person, he had so much emotion...he had serious doubts about this.
--
Heero shook his head. He didn't get what the joke was. He'd expected something ... more...embarrasing. Knowing Duo, anyway. Why had he made such a big thing about it, just to give him the part of Roger Davis?
--
Duo sat back with an evil smile on his face. He was *really* going to enjoy this. And he would be getting closer to Heero than he had ever dared to hope he'd be.
"Oh, would you light my candle?" he murmured. "Huh, Heero?"
