Believe

Open with blinding flashes of light, fading to a show a silhouette against a seagreen background. Spotlights swirl around the figures before one settles on it to show...

Relena in a risque pale-green jumpsuit! Grasping a microphone, she begins to move as the music starts. The huge screen behind her fades to painfully bright white.

***

No matter how hard I try
You keep pushing me aside
And I can't break through
There's no talking to you

***

As Relena sings, the screen flashes to life with a montage.

The infamous cliff scene. A shot of Heero looking over his shoulder, then away Heero again, ignoring Relena as she follows him. Relena, head bowed, hands folded in front, blacklit by white light.

Through all of this, Relena paces in front of the screen, making a lot of diva-esque gestures.

***

It's so sad that you're leaving
It takes time to believe it
But after all is said and done
You're gonna be the lonely one, oh

***

Screen changes to glow green lightls bouncing around on black. A pillar of steam erupts on the right side of the stage. When it clears, Heero is there looking slightly pissed. Relena shimmies towards him, pointing.

***

Do you believe in life after love?
I can feel something in side me say
I really don't think you're strong enough, now

***

The glowy green lights go nuts as Relena moves closer to Heero, touching his arm. He gives her an annoyed look and moves out of reach. She moves closer, he moves away. This little drama plays out several times until Heero is on the left side of the stage.

***

Do you believe in life after love?
I can feel something inside me say
I really don't think you're strong enough now

***

Relena stops pursuing Heero and begins to go backwards, doing a shoulder-rolling, hip-swinging little dance that brings the heels of her five-inch white stillettos down sharply on the stage. One hand remains outstretched towards Heero until she reaches centerstage. Then she snaps it dramatically to her heart and proceeds to use it for many overdone gestures.

***

What am I supposed to do?
Sit around and wait for you? Well I can't do that
And there's no turning back

***

Heero, obviously relieved that Relena is not playing the diva instead of bothering him, scans the audience. Finding what he was searching for, he goes to the edge of the stage and pulls a familiar braided figure up beside him.

***

I need time to move on
I need love to feel strong
'Cause I've had time to think it through
And maybe I'm too good for you, oh

***

Turning to look at Heero again, Relena's face contorts with surprise and anger though the song goes on smoothly. With fury evident in each step, she diva-walks (heeh) back towards the pair. As she reaches the last to lines of the verse she taps her temple dramatically (again) then points and accusing finger at Heero, which pokes him in the chest when she is close enough.

***

Do you believe in life after love?
I can feel something inside me say
I really don't feel you're strong enough now

***

Heero glares at Relena and backs up - slightly. She moves forward accordingly and Heero agains edges closer to an amused Duo. Relena's eyes narrow as they light on the smirking Deathscythe pilot. Duo and Heero look at each other for a moment, then as one they break and run.

***

Do you believe in life after love?
I can feel something inside me say
I really don't think you're strong enough now

***

Relena pelts after the two pilots screeching "Heeeeeeeerrrrroooooooo!" (proving that she'd been lip-synching all along) and somehow managing not to fall or break a heel. They run off stage and the giant screen flashes, then shows the three, still running, through tech crews and up a flight of stairs. The stairs prove to be endless and the screen shows an upshop, Heero and Duo fleeing from Relena, two dark dots pursued by a pale green one going around and around and around...

***

Well I know that I'll get through this
'Cause I know that I am strong
I don't need you anymore, oh
I don't need you anymore
No, I don't need you anymore...

***

Heero and Duo finally reach the end of the stairs and emerge on the roof. Relena, still screeching, isn't too far behind. With no words, the two pilots grab each other's hands and take flying leaps off the building, over the street (which is a suitably terrifying distance down), landing safely on an adjacent building. Relena is left on the recently vacated roof by herself. She turns to the edge and glares at the retreating figures. Cupping her hands around her mouth, she yells, "Heero! Omae wa atashi no mono da! Remember that!"

***

I don't need you anymore... (repeat, fade)

***

Heero and Duo, sitting together on a rooftop far away. A faint echo of Relena's voice is heard and Duo grimaces.

"She doesn't know when to give up does she?"

"Hn."

Fade out on the two pilots sitting with their arms about each other, backdropped by a brilliant sunset.
