I Drove All Night

I had to escape; the city was sticky and cruel.
Maybe I should have called you first, but I was dying to get to you.
I was dreaming when I drove the long straight road ahead.
To taste your sweet kisses, your arms open wide.
This fever for you is just burning me up inside.

Heero downshifted and took the turn faster than he should have, gripping the wheel with force enough to leave dents in the unoffending metal. Sweat dripped off the ends of his spiky hair, stinging his eyes, and he swiped a hand across his face in irritation. It was well past 2 am. He should have simply secured his gundam and hidden the truck, but he was so close. So close. Less than 300 miles. Four hours, less if he really pushed it, and he could be there.

He could almost taste his lover’s breath, almost feel the deceptively slender arms wind around his neck with trust and abandon as they shared communion deep into the night. He could almost hear his name called out in a strikingly smooth and husked voice, almost feel the silk of skin overlaying muscle beneath him. The night heat delighted in caressing him with his memories of warm lips and a wet tongue tracing down the center of his back, and gentle, teasing fingers toying with his navel.

He growled into the darkness that enveloped him with an erotic familiarity. He smiled, and he knew the night, for who else could know it as he did, one who loved it, was loved by it. Sleep called to him, but he ignored the crooning of that false flesh, and made instead for his brother, Death.

He could picture the small cabin set back well off the roads, nestled deep into the trees. A safehouse, barely big enough for one, and yet the close, cramped quarters were too still too big, kept him too far from his lover.

****
I drove all night
Crept in your room
Woke you from your sleep
To make love to you
Is that all right?
I drove all night.

Another star twinkled high in the sky, winking its delight a he trekked across countless, endless miles to reach his salvation. No, he feared not Night, only the loneliness that he brought.

****
What in this world keeps us from tearing apart?
No matter where I go I hear the beating of your heart.
I think about you when the night is cold and dark.
No one can move me the way that you do.
Nothing erases this feeling between me and you.

The mission had been desperate and heated, and yet with every moment, every volley, every slash of his beam saber, he knew he was one step closer to his goal. One step closer to Death. Just one more enemy, one more target, that was all that mattered.

He timed every fire of his weaponry to the steady beat he felt in his blood, a beat that matched his own, yet that he instinctively knew was another’s. Another, who danced this dance with him, always. Another who shared his life, his heart, his soul, watching with an expectant smile as he led enemies to his lover’s door.

The Night devoured him, prepared to claim him as Sleep played his soft tunes of lull and deception. Heero shook it off, bound by a call stronger than needs of his body, determined not to fail his lover by succumbing to his more shallow brethren, who would desert him when they were done, leaving him bereft of eternity.

A small darkness loomed ahead on the horizon, and a plume of smoke barely marked his home, for home was not a place, but a person. A person with eyes of a fierce, night-born storm and hair of silken chestnut threaded with kisses from the sun and skin of deceptively human softness, but Death called to him from those eyes, winked playfully at him from behind the curtain of hair, seduced him from within the flesh.

His skin tingled like a thousand pinpoints as he neared the small, unassuming house. Anticipation fogged the windows of his transport, threatening to block his view of the small haven he approached. Fever raged in his blood, an unyielding hunger for the temptation of immortality that he found in that embrace.

Miles stretched out behind him, already forgotten as he eased his way from the forest and his gundam. Night and Sleep, defeated by desire, fled his presence seeking easier prey as he slipped into the shadow of the small lodging, creeping silently through to the last door, the last barrier to his greatest and most important mission.

A shadow hanging over the figure in the bed, brushed slender fingers through a fringe of cool, light hair as he entered. Darkness relinquished his post to the boy with a knowing smile and a bow, melting away to leave him with the curled figure.

Heero leaned over and placed his lips at the pulse of the exposed neck, instantly drunk on the taste, smell, and feel all around him. Time stopped as the slender body on the bed, uncurled and wound strong arms around his neck, as he had dreamed, better than he had dreamed, better than he remembered.

Violet eyes opened and reflected the light of a thousand distant stars; each one another relinquished portion of his soul. Midnight sun streamed through his heart as a smile swept across the field of night-darkened amethyst and over the elfin face of the boy known as Death.

I drove all night

Taste your sweet kisses; your arms open wide.
This fever for you is just burning me up inside.

I drove all night.

Soft lips breathed a promise over his cheek, his ear, through his hair, across his neck, and ignited the smoldering embers in his veins.

“I waited for you,” a puff of warmth seared the last remaining icicles in his blood, those last barriers that separated him from this boy. A kiss placed in the hollow of his throat melted the last of his resistance and he surrendered completely, joyous freedom singing through his body, released by the simple touch.

Heero breathed long enough to speak to his heart’s captor.

‘I drove all night.’
