//Song Lyrics// Almost Paradise is by Mike Reno and Ann Wilson. GW isn't mine.

Quatre tugged at Duo's arms frantically. The petite blonde was almost dragging the braided boy down the hallway. He did his best not to look at the bloody streaks that his dragging had spread across the gleaming white floors.

"Come on, Duo! You've got to get up! The soldiers will be here any minute!"

Bright indigo eyes smiled sadly up at him. "Go on," The hoarse voice whispered. "I'll cover you."

"Oh, Duo." Quatre sank to his knees beside him, breathing heavily.

"You too?" A bloody hand gestured weakly to where the Arab was clutching his stomach, a crimson stain spreading over his pink dress-shirt.

"Aa." The blonde whispered.

//I thought that dreams belonged to other men,
Cause each time I got close,
They'd fall apart again.//

"Who ever thought it would end like this?" Duo closed his eyes. His hand snuck out and clasped firmly to Quatre's.

"It was just a matter of time really." The braided boy continued. "With all the suicide missions the scientists have been sending us on..."

Quatre looked down at the bloodstained hand cradled in his palm. "I'm glad the others escaped."

Duo looked over at him. "Why did you come back for me?"

//I feared my heart would beat in secrecy.
I faced the nights alone,
Oh, how could I have known?
That all my life I only needed you?//

"I couldn't leave you." The Arab said softly, remembering seeing Duo go down in a flurry of bullets while trying to cover the other's escape. "I would have been leaving behind a part of myself."

Painstakingly, Duo struggled to sit up. Breathing heavily, he looked deeply into Quatre's aquamarine eyes.

"I wish I had known." The hand that wasn't holding Quatre's came up and gently brushed away a solitary tear that was making its wake down the blonde's cheek.

Quatre leaned forward and captured Duo's lips with his own. Their first kiss was terribly brief as both pilots fought to stay conscious.

//Almost paradise,
We're knockin on heaven's door.
Almost paradise,
How could we ask for more?
I swear that I could see forever in your eyes.

Slowly falling back towards the floor, Duo watched as Quatre did the same. They laid there in silence, faces inches away from each other.

"You were always so beautiful." Quatre whispered, tangling his hand into the braided-boy's hair. "I was so afraid that you didn't like me the way...the way I loved you."

"I always thought you liked Trowa," Duo laughed softly. "I never thought that anyone could love a loudmouth like me."

"I guess we were both bakas," Quatre chuckled.

//It seems that perfect love's so hard to find.
I'd almost given up.
You must of read my mind.//

"I never thought I would find someone to share my heart with." Violet eyes shone with unshed tears.

"Nor did I...I'm glad we finally found each other."

Full lips parted into a familiar smirk. "Me too. Though I wish it would've been under different circumstances.

//And all these dreams I saved for a rainy day,
They're finally coming true!
I'll share them all with you,
Cause now we hold the future in our hands.//

"So when should we set the date?"

Aquamarine eyes clouded with confusion. "Date?"

"For the wedding."

"Oh." Quatre smiled brilliantly. "The spring, I think. I always wanted a spring wedding."

Quatre looked up to see Duo breathing hard, sweat pouring down his face. Closing his own eyes tightly I against the pain, he forced himself to keep talking.

//Almost paradise.
We're knockin on heaven's door.
Almost paradise.
How could we ask for more?
I swear that I could see forever in your eyes.

"So would you like to live on Earth, or the colonies?"

Duo looked at him. "The Earth...Besides you, it's the most beautiful thing I have ever seen."

"You, my koi," Quatre said firmly. "Are a shameless flatterer."

Duo laughed despite the pain. "Guilty...as charged." Violet eyes grew thoughtful.

"Do you believe in Heaven, Quatre?"

"Aa, Duo. I do."

"Do you think I'll make it there?"

Quatre gently put his arm around the braided boy, pulling him close. "Oh, Duo! Of course you'll go to Heaven!"

"Good..." Duo whispered. "Cause there is a certain blonde Angel that I'll be wanting to see."

//And in your arms salvation's not so far away!
It's getting closer, closer everyday.//

Duo listened as footsteps echoed through the corridor.

"They're coming."

Quatre didn't even look up. "I know...it won't be long now." The hallway seemed to tilt dizzily, and Quatre closed his eyes tightly.

"Don't." Duo pleaded softly. "I want to see your eyes..." Quatre obeyed and Duo smiled, kissing Quatre gently on the forehead.

//Almost paradise.
We're knockin on heaven's door.
Almost paradise.
How could we ask for more?
I swear that I could see forever in your eyes.

"This is the end...isn't it?" The American asked softly.

"No, Duo...the others will find us...just hold on..." Tears tracked unheeded down Quatre's face.

"Don't lie to me, koi...I can see it in your eyes..."

"See what?" The blonde breathed.

When the guards finally came, they found the two boys lying in the middle of the hallway, arms wrapped around each other. The guard saw the peaceful smiles on the too young faces and turned away, overcome. It was a long time before anyone had the heart to separate the two bodies.
