"Do What You Have to Do" by Sarah Mclachlan
Slight angst. A bit sappy. I just thought this song was very HD... Oh, and excuse my spelling, I don't have enough time to proof it ^-^;;
Note: No sound (beside the song) in this fic unless otherwise noted (ie, "over the music").

~What ravages of spirit
Conjured this temptuous rage
Created you a monster
Broken by the rules of love...~

Start with a fade-in of the ruins of Maxwell Church, panning slowly back. When the complete destruction is visible, it's overlaid with a translucent image of Duo in his usual starting pose. The church fades to black as Duo solidfies. Shot melts into a photo of the Deathscythe pilot asleep, hair unbound. Turn to see a close-up of Heero's face, the expression in his eyes faintly puzzled. Change angles to show that he's holding the photo and studying it intently.

~And fate has led you through it
You do what you have to do
And fate has led you through it
You do what you have to do~

Brilliant white light flashes, sillhouetting Heero for a moment before engulfing him. A hazy freeze-frame montage of the two pilots begins:

A young Heero, holding a gun and looking grim. Duo, seated beside the dying Solo, eyes sad. The bodies little girl and her dog, Heero beside the wreckage.A faint whisper is heard above the music,"...I've always been lost..."

~And I have to sense to recognize
That I don't know how to let you go~

Another flash. Heeros sillhouette reappears, then his form as the light dies away. His fingers tighten around the photograph before he puts it on the table facedown and covers it with his hand, eyes closing. His lips form a singe word - "Duo." Fade.

~Every moment marked
With apparitions of your soul
I'm ever swiftly moving
Trying to escape this desire...~

Heero, standing at the foot of Wing Zero. A laughing phantom Duo appears, his mirth echoing faintly above the music. Heero refuses to look at it though we can see him tense. With short, abrupt movements, he enters Zero's cockpit. The phantom melts away and, switching to bird-mode, the Gundam speeds away. Switch to an interior shot to show Heero's almost-grim expression.

~The yearning to be near you
I do what I have to do
The yearning to be near you
I do what I have to do~

Unfolding in midair, Zero performs a perfect, ground shaking landing. Cut to Duo, sitting alone in his latest safehouse. Chin resting on his interlocked fingers, his eyes are faraway. He looks up in surprise as the door opens and Heero steps through. They stare at each other for a long moment. Then, with deliberate movements, Heero closes the gap between them.

~But I have the sense to recognize
That I don't know how to let you go
I don't know how to let you go...~

Hesitantly, Heero cups Duo's face, four fingers curving gently behind his ear, palm against cheeck, and them gently caressing the ridge of his cheekbone. Following his arm up, the screen is filled with Heero's face. His expression is much more open than usual; quizzical, tender, and thoughtful. Move to see Duo, eyes very wide, breathing rapid, lips slightly parted.

~A glowing ember
Burning hot, burning slow
Deep within I'm shaken by the violence
Of existing for only you...~

Heero tilts the braided boy's face upwards and, in slow stopframe motion, kisses him. They stay that way for a long moment before Heero pulls back, bewilderment and indecision evident in his eyes. He backs slowly just out of armslength and Duo lets him before extending one hand towards him, low, husky voice sounding above the music. "Heero..."

~I know I can't be with you
I do what I have to do
I know I can't be with you
I do what I have to do...~

At the sound of Duo's voice, Heero stops moving. Staring for a moment, he begins to turn away at an agonizingly slow speed. For some reason he stops again to look back at Duo. With hesitant, almost jerky movements he walks back towards the Deathsycthe pilot and doesn't stop until he's only a breath away.

~And I have to sense to recognize
But I don't know how to let you go
I don't know how to let you go...~

Dropping to his knees, Heero gathers Duo into a fierce embrace, burying his face in the other's stomach. With a joyful, disbelieving expression, Duo wramps his arms about Heero's head and shoulders, placing a kiss in his hair. The Japanese pilot raises his head to intercept Duo's lips with his own. Breaking apart after sever long moments, Heero nuzzles Duo's ear, and his whispered voice is heard, breaking slightly, "Ai... aishiteru."

~I don't know how to let you go... (repeat, fade)~

Duo smiles and a gold light spreads around the two pilots, eding their forms. It intensifys, floods the screen, then fades away with the music.
