As silent as a mouse, but not built like one, Duo slipped himself into the house with a medium sized cardboard box in his arms. He carefully rounded the corner, so far so good. He peeked his head into the kitchen- no Heero. He sighed quietly. The lights were low in all the rooms, shadows plentiful.

Duo paused in the middle of the living room as he heard the door to the bathroom open. The light shone across the floor and then was gone. He heard the door to their bedroom open and then shut silently. Duo crept over to the basement stairs and proceeded to tiptoe down. There was a slight noise in the box; Duo froze. He turned his head slowly to the bedroom door and was relieved to see that it was still shut.

Duo made it down the stairs without falling, and set the box down next to the water heater. He whispered into the box, and then made his way back up the stairs. He wished that Heero fixed the basement door, but he dismissed the thought. Thoughts like that only lead to trouble, like stress. Now that he didn't need more of.

Duo walked back to the front door, opened it and then shut it hard like he was just walking in the house.

"Hee-chan! I'm home!" he pronounced proudly. He turned on the kitchen light and grabbed a beer from the fridge. He sauntered over to the bedroom door and flung it open, smiling broadly. "Heero!" he chirped.

"I heard you the first time, Duo." Heero intoned, as he began to print something up. Duo didn't like the emphasis he put on the word `first'. He decided to dismiss it.

"What're you printing?" Duo trotted over to Heero's side.

"Something for work." Heero said straight forward, taking the paper once it was done. Duo looked around the room with owlish eyes,

"Where's Velvet?"

"She was on the bed last I saw her."

Duo smiled, and then started to search for the cute bundle of fur, "Oh, by the way, I bought more cat food and toys, if that's ok with you."

"It's your money." Heero replied.

"Ah, of course." Duo smirked. He searched around the bed and found a lump on Heero's side of the bed. He lifted the covers to discover that the kitten was fast asleep, stretched straight out, and had her head against the pillow. Duo let out a sharp laugh. Heero turned his chair and raised an eyebrow.

"Now what?"

"Velvet's trying to be human again." Duo snickered.

"Oh." Heero turned back to his computer, "She always is."

"Just like her owner." Duo received a very sharp and threatening glare, "Only joking! I know from experience that you are very human. Especially when I hear you laugh." Duo grinned, trying desperately to cover up his mistake.

"Hn." Heero turned back around. "No kibble for Du-kitty today."

"Hey! I said I was joking!" Duo huffed. "Where's your sense of humor today?"

"It took a holiday."

"See? There you are! You DO have a sense of humor!"

"Yes, but only because I've been hanging around you too much."

Duo put his hands on his hips, "And this is a bad thing because…"

"I'm stuck with you."

"What, you'd rather hang around WuFei? Come on, Hee-koi! You love being around me and picking up my wonderful aura." Duo punctuated with putting his nose in the air, grinning like a nut.

"Don't flatter yourself." Heero grunted.

"Fine! Be that way!" Duo threw his hands up in the air.

"Shh! You'll wake up Velvet."

"Hmph! Well, I'm gonna go put away the kitten food and…" he finally opened the top of his beer, "sit out in the living room and watch TV. If you ever get the urge to spend some quality time with your better half, then feel free to join me."

Heero sighed when Duo shut the door, he could hear him grumbling something as he walked away. Heero shook his head, "Boyfriends… Hn."

Duo finished with what he wanted to do and proceeded to go to bed. Heero never did join him out in the living room, and it was just as well anyways. He was probably still mad at him, so he hoped to make it up to him tonight.

He snuck into the bedroom and the first thing he noticed is that the computer was no longer on. His eyes roamed over to the bed and there was Heero, under the covers with Velvet curled at his side. It was a sweet sight, but he forgot where he put the camera, so taking a picture was out of the question.

He snuck over to his side, pulled back the covers, and sat down- taking off his shirt. Next came his pants and socks, and then he slipped carefully into the bed sheets next to his love. Trying not to disturb the kitten, he wrapped his arms around Heero's torso. A dark blue eye popped open.

"Took you long enough." Heero said hoarsely.

"Gomen, Hee-chan." He kissed Heero on the forehead. "You forgive me?"

"Hai. Of course I forgive you." Heero closed his one eye, "Now get some sleep, we have a big day tomorrow."

"Ok." Duo shut his eyes, "Oyasumi nasai."

Heero smiled at Duo's sweet American voice speaking Japanese, "Oyasumi."

The covers became too warm, and so Heero threw them off his top half. He still felt warm, so he decided to roll over on his side. However, something halted his movement from going any further. Just as Heero was about to open one eye, he heard a crash from the living room.

"Duo?" Heero asked, half asleep. He cracked his eyes open and saw a pair of leaf green eyes staring at him. At first, he thought they belonged to Velvet, but then his mind processed… "White fur?" His eyes snapped open and he sat up, startling the white fluff ball next to him. He watched as the little white kitten took off out the bedroom door, which was ajar. He heard another sound coming from just outside their door, it sounded like Velvet running across the carpet, but this time it was more than just four paws galloping through the hallway. It sounded as if there were a herd of elephants in their house. "Duo!!" Heero shouted.

Duo just walked out of their bathroom, towel around his head. "Yes, Heero?" He stopped short as he heard the same thing coming from the living room. Then they both heard a high-pitched growl and some hissing. "Oh shit."

"Duo." Heero was trying to keep his cool, "By any chance, when you went to go get more cat food, did you also get more cats?"

Duo's lip trembled a bit, hoping that it helped with the situation, "But-but Hee-chan! They were gonna kill them!"

"Who are they?"

"The original owners. They were trying to sell them or get rid of them on the street but they had no luck. One of the guys were saying how much he hated cats and that if he didn't give any of them away he'll take them down to the lake and drown them! I could let him do that!"

"How many?" Heero said, not sounding too happy.

Duo rocked on his heels nervously, unable to look at his boyfriend in the eyes, "Ano… F-f-f…" he swallowed.

"Du-chan. Tell me." Heero ordered.

"F-five." Duo squeaked out.

Duo nodded meekly.

"Duo…" Heero sounded normal, so Duo looked up into his face. "What the HELL are we supposed to do with SIX cats??" Heero sneered.

"Uh…k-keep them and love them?"

"And feed them, and entertain them, and clean their litter boxes…" Heero sighed heavily, "Duo, you know that we can't afford six kittens! What is wrong with you?"

"But Hee-chan! They were gonna KILL them!"

Heero got up, crossed the room to his dresser and took out a pair of sweat pants. "And think of the vet bill, Duo. How do you think we'll be able to afford to take them all in?"

"Look, I know it may seem bad now, but I think it'll be worth it."

Before Duo could respond, Velvet came rushing in followed by one of the other kittens. It was a black one with white at the end of its tail. Velvet leapt up onto the bed and from there she jumped up onto Heero's dresser where Heero was still standing. Her tail was twitching like mad and her ears were firmly back against her head. She was hissing at the strange kitten and then she looked up at Heero, almost sympathetically.

The little black kitten looked up at Velvet, tail going like crazy.

"Looks like someone's got a crush." Duo laughed. Velvet didn't like the way that longhaired human was acting at her expense and she jumped up onto Heero's shoulders. She wrapped her body around Heero's neck and started to purr with half lidded eyes.

"The kittens are to stay outside in the kitten house."

"But I thought that house was Velvet's."

"Well they're not staying in here. One is enough."

"Don't argue with me, Duo. It's either that or we get rid of them."

"Now, Duo. Take your little Shinigami there and the rest and stick them outside."

"Hai." Duo grumbled. He picked up the little black kitten with one scoop and proceeded to do as he was told.
