"Ah, there you are boy. Now, I think it would be appropriate to let you know that I'll moving to someplace else with the other scientists."
The youth widen his eyes slightly before returning it to a blank state.
"Don't worry, I've got everything planned for you. You will be living with your husband on earth. Your marriage certificate came in this morning and you will be living this afternoon for earth."
"Mission accepted." The young man replyed simply and turn to leave the room.
"One more thing boy." The man called out, halting the young man's progress.
"Hm... well... do you have any question regarding your husband?" Dr J asked awkwardly, hopefully there would be some question instead of this simple acceptance.
The young man considered the question for a moment and then said. "What do I need to know?"
The scientist shake his head resignedly. He should have taught the boy more about normal lives and for god sake, the boy should have more curiosity then this.
"Don't you want to know why I married you to a man? Don't you want to know why I didn't chose a girl for you?" Dr J asked hopefully.
"Does it matter?" The youth questioned back.
"Oh, I give up. I'll leave you to your husband. He's perfect for you. I've done all the calculation, you two will be prefect for each other." Dr J declared finally and silently pat himself on the back for a job well done.
"Listen, Heero. Marriage is about love. I've accounted all the factors in the calculation when finding your partner. You and your husband should be able to fall in love easily and would have the prefect marriage. But your husband have experience some trauma in the past, so it would be your duty to help him overcome it."
The young man nodded and walked out the door to pack.
"Good luck Heero. This is the best I can do to make up for all the things I've neglected to taught you." Dr J whispered softly to himeself and signed.
"What?! What did you just said?" He glared at his so-called father.
"Calm down, Duo. We've already organised everything and you've signed the marriage form. So now you are officially married and your husband will be arriving first thing tomorrow morning. You don't have to worry a thing." Howard remarked casually.
"And when exactly did I signed the damn paper?" Duo asked through clenched teeth.
"You probably won't remember. I believe you were drunk that night, again." Howard shrugged.
"Old man!" Duo growled out threateningly.
"Oh, and I think you wouldn't want to get a divorce. The boy really loves you." Howard crossed his finger secretly. "And he's an orphan, he will have nowhere to go if you left him." Not to mention the trouble the boy would have with living normally, Howard added silently to himself, thinking about all the information he had been given about Duo's partner.
Duo frowned slightly.
"I won't be trapped this easily, old man." Duo looked at Howard defiantly and stormed out the door.
"Fuck!" Duo mutter angrily as he sat on his usual seat amongst his friend.
"Typical Maxwell." Wufei snorted, taking a sip of his beer. Trowa's expressionless. Quartre looked at Duo worriedly.
"What happened?" Quartre asked softly.
"The old man tricked me!" Duo exclaimed, calling the waitress over and quickly placing his order.
"What did he do?" Trowa asked, calmly placing his arm around his Quartre's shoulder.
"He tricked me." Duo repeated sourly.
Wufei smirked and asked amusingly. "How?"
Duo glared balefully at him for a minute. "He got me married to some guy I didn't even know!" Duo quickly down the bottle of beer from the waitree, quickly opening another one.
Quartre, Trowa and Wufei stared wide eyes at Duo's outburst. Then Abruptly, Wufe began laughing loudly.
"Shut up." Duo took another glup of beer.
"I was drunk." Duo explained to the question look in Quartre's eyes.
"Oh, I see." Quartre stated diplomatically.
"What are you going to do?" Trowa asked directly.
"The old man should know my temper. This is all his fault. He should be the one to fix it up." Duo declared angrily.
"But I think this will be good for you." Quartre smiled happily at Duo.
"Oh, I know. Your space heart?" Duo said sarcastically.
"You shouldn't drink so much, considering what it had already gotten you into." Trowa remarked dryly.
"Forget it Trowa, as if he's going to listen to anyone. He's hopeless. I think Quartre's right. This marriage thing should teach him being more responsible." Wufei waved dismissively at Trowa.
And possiblly being the only chance for their friend to find his happiness and a reason to let go of the past. They added silently to themselves.
"Not my problem and I'm definitely not going to take responsibility for all this." Duo downed another bottle quickly. "I'm staying at your place tonight, Q."
"Oh... ok." Quartre blinked once.
"When will we get to see your husband?" Wufei asked, grinning madly at the annoying look Duo has given him in return for the question.
"Never. If I can help it." Duo declared.
"I doubt Howard would find someone who can't keep up with you. I'm sure we will see him sooner or later, whether you like it or not." Trowa stated logically.
Duo shoot him a glare.
"Duo, even if you don't want to be married. It's probably best to get to know your husband a bit more. I'm sure you will like him." Quatre smiled reassuringly at Duo.
"Quatre." Duo said slowly. "I've gave up on happiness a long time ago."
They all got silenced as they can find nothing to say to that. Duo is too stubborn to listen to any of their advice.
Heero was just about to walk through the gate to aboard the shuttle to earth when Dr J halted him again.
"Here Heero. I didn't really want to give it to you and I see no real value of this being helpful to your marriage, but I think it's best you read it and at least have some idea about the sort of thing you would need to do." Dr J holds the book in his hand and hold it out to Heero.
Guide to marriage and loving your partner, Heero read the title as he took hold of the book.
"Hn." Heero nodded slightly at the Doctor as a way of saying his thanks.
"Don't follow all the advice in there, boy. Every relationship is different. Some of the thing in the book could harm your relationship rather than helping it." Dr. J warned.
"Well, guess this is our last good bye then." Heero stood tensely as the Doctor suddently hugged him tightly.
"Good luck Heero." Dr J whispered softly. "You are just like a son to me. If thing don't work out and you need a place to run to, look me up."
"You said you've done all the calculation. We are the perfect couple." Heero frowned.
"Yeah, theoritically. However, experimentation will be needed to confirm the foundings." Dr. J loosen his hold and looked at Heero squarely.
"Understood. I'll keep a record of my progress." Heero replied seriously at Dr. J.
The Doctor just sighed out loud and rolled his eyes a couple of times, berating himself for speaking to Heero in that way.
"Go on Boy. You've got a long way to go."
Heero take a minute to looked at the doctor carefully, finally turned and entered the gate.
Heero frowned and glared at the wall in front of him, as if it could solve all the problem.
He had arrived early in the morning and he had expected his husband would be meeting him at the airport. But there's no sign of his husband anywhere, except Howard, who said he lived with Duo. He had thought that Duo would be home waiting ro him then.
He glared harder at the wall, there's no one in the room with him.
"Baka." Heero growled out and grumpily took out this laptop and began typing rapidly on it.
5 minutes later. He nodded to himself, packed up the laptop and went out the door again.
*knock* *knock* *knock*
Duo groaned painfully on the couch at the rapid knocking on the door.
"Q, Tro, get you damn door!" Duo shouted and quickly buried his head under the pillow.
"A headache?" Trowa asked Duo casually as he approached the door.
Duo groaned out an incoherent reply with his head still buried in the pillow. Not that Trowa need to hear it clearly to know what Duo said, he already had a pretty good idea.
Trowa opened the door and blinked at the shorter man at the door. The man is a good deal shorter than him, probably Asian descent with his stature. However the eyes is the colour of sapphire and the pale skin.
If it's not because of the intense glare directed up at him and the way the person held himself in front of him, Trowa would have said the guy looked like a doll.
"Yes? May I help you?" Trowa asked politely.
"Trowa Barton, a friend of Duo Maxwell. I'm here for him." Heero stated.
"And you are?" Trowa eyebrow went up as he looked down at the stranger who seems to know him.
"Heero Yuy. Duo Maxwell's husband." Heero replied and gave Trowa a bow.
"Ah, I see. Here to pick up your drunk husband." Trowa smirked amusingly and discretly observe the man before him.
Heero frowned slightly before nodding determinely back at the taller man.
"Come on in then." Trowa opened up the door. "He's the lump you see on the couch."
Heero stood and narrowed his eyes at the said lump, all he can see is the long plait of hair hanging down to the floor.
"Oh hi. I'm Quatre Winner. You are Heero Yuy, Duo's husband?" A soft voice interrupted Heero thought and he turned toward the voice.
"Hai." Heero give him a bow and Quatre smiled happily at him. Trowa walked over and put his arm around the blond headed boy.
"Heero. I know you will be good for Duo. He... he need someone to love him." Quatre looked at Heero pleadingly.
"You are a good friend. Duo will be alright with me." Heero replied, thinking on the calculation Dr. J had done. Dr J's calculations hardly ever went wrong, so there's really no point to worry and he is here to make sure everything goes as planned.
Quatre stared at Heero for a few minute and finally nodded, as if satisfied with what he had seen. Heero tried hard not the fidget under the stare. There's just something about Quatre that made Heero uncomfortable, as if he can see right through Heero.
"Duo's all yours." Trowa gesture toward the lump, breaking the awkward silence in the room.
"Hn." Heero lifted the corner of his mouth slightly at Trowa and promptly walked toward Duo.
"Ouch. What the hell?!" Heero pulled on the braid, forcing Duo's head out of the pillow screaming. Quatre and Trowa watched wide eyes at the action. Quatre started to move but was stopped by Trowa. The couple shared a look and relaxed back to stand at their current position, neither saying a word.
"What's that for?" Duo shouted and immediately stopped as he looked up at the unfamiliar figure standing before him.
"Who the hell are you?" Duo glared.
Heero blinked once and said. "Your eyes are violet." He bend down and leveled his head with Duo to get a closer look.
Duo fought back the blush and the rapiding heart beat. He pull his face away and snarled. "I asked you a question."
Heero blinked again and dismissed the unusual eye colour.
"Heero Yuy. Your husband." Duo stared blankly up at the face and then narrowed his eyes slowly.
"I never agreed to this marriage."
"You signed the marriage paper." Heero stated.
"I got tricked into this. And you don't know me. You shouldn't have sign the paper. This is your fault." Duo accused.
Heero frowned but quickly smooth it out. "It doesn't matter. We are married now. We can get to know each other. We will love each other. We will not get a divorce" He recited, determine to succeed at this mission. There's no way he can fail when all the calculations is in their favour. They would just have to get over this first meeting and build their relationship.
Unfortunately, his husband didn't seen to be in a good mood to began their relationship, being hang over and all. Thinking back to the book given to him. Heero abruptly turned, located the kitchen and dissapeared into it, water was heard runing, cupboard heard opened and closed.
Just as quickly, Heero appeared with a glass and hold it out for Duo.
"Drink this." Heero commanded.
Duo wrinkle his nose at the smell and asked. "What's this? It stinks. I'm not going to drink this."
"It's going to cure your hang over. I'm going to pour it down your throat if you don't drink it voluntary yourself." Heero declared.
"Don't you dare!" Duo threatened.
"This is good for you. As your husband, I should make you feel good. Now drink." Heero hold the drink out closer to Duo, eyes looked at Duo challengingly.
"Fine! I'm going to drag you to hell with me if I die." Duo grabbed the glass the down the drink quickly.
"You can get the hell out of here now." Duo told Heero calmly.
Heero stared at his husband, all of this doesn't make sense. His husband should have thanked him for his thoughtful act and they should now be getting to kown each other. But to the contrary, Duo is asking him to leave. Maybe this mission is not as easy as he think it is.
"Well..." Duo prompted.
"You've never been married before." Heero stated, satisfied with himself for finding out the reason for the illogical behaviour.
"We can learn together." Heero forced a smile for Duo, wanting to re-assure his husband.
"What the hell are you on about?" Perplexed, Duo could only asked.
"I know we are both not experienced in this marriage thing. So it's ok for you to act like this. However, now that we are married, we can learn about marriage together. I'm sure you action will make more sense to me once we start learning it." Heero explained reasonably to the confused Duo.
After hearing this statement, Duo could only stared at Heero.
Taking this as an approval, Heero smiled, satisfied that he had finally done something constructive to the marriage.
"Do you want to go home now?" Heero asked.
Home. Duo thought dazely, a sudden warmth spread through Duo body as he looked up at Heero. Despite the rash behaviour, Heero's eyes, the sapphire eyes shone kindness, naivety and a hidden softness that makes people wants to trust him. Should he risk again, risk being hurt and abandon again? Perhaps.
Or perhaps not. Duo can only sighed at the scene in front of him, feeling an overwhelming sense of helplessness. He can't help but wondered how this Heero had lived before. This husband of his doesn't even know the first thing about human interaction but he wants to make their relationship work? Geez, if only Duo can laugh at this.
"Where did you came from?" Duo can't helped but asked finally.
Heero turned to face Duo, secretly glad that Duo seem to be finally warming up to him and replied. "L1."
Duo rolled his eyes and said calmly. "Yes, and where exactly on L1 did you came from?"
Heero blinked and replied hesitantly, not quiet sure what Duo was asking. "I lived with Dr. J in L1."
"Dr. J? Who is he? Your father?"
"Dr J is Dr J. He looks after me and taught me things." Heero answered after thinking over it for a moment.
"Oh, I guess you are just as much an orphan as I am." Duo muttered softly and seemingly lost in thought.
Duo blinked at the plate of food that suddenly appeared in front of his face, if he can called it food. He wrinkled his nose for a minute and looked up at the blank face in front of him.
"Um... what is this?" Duo asked dubiously.
"Breakfast, the most important meal of the day. Eat it. You have to go to work." Heero stated, seeing he had gotten Duo's attention, putted down the plate of food on the table instead of holding it.
"Heero..." Duo looked at the food and looked up at him. "You know how to cook?"
"No. But I've seen some cooking program on the shuttle, it's not hard to learn. It's all about mixing up the ingredient up in the right proportion, like chemistry. So I made this breakfast with all the nutritional value in mind, unlike what they did in the program, this breakfast that I devised should give you all the vitamins and mineral you will need for your day. I know that a lot of healthy married couple are conscious of their health." Heero explained.
Duo listened intently at the explaination and looked horrendously at the food in front of him.
"You are going to force it down my throat if I don't eat it?" Duo asked.
Heero cocked his head to the side a little as he regard his husband. "Yes, I should take care of you since you don't seem to be able to look after yourself. You don't seem to know what's good for you."
Duo raised his hand to his head, rubbing it for a few time. "Heero, what do you usually eat?"
"Bread. Because we rarely have the time to make anything and Dr J said we shouldn't waste times on food when we could have work a miracle." Heero stated.
"Can I have some bread then?" Duo asked hopefully.
"I had the time to make you breakfast now. You don't have to eat bread. We don't have to eat bread. We will both be healthy." Heero glared at the defeated look in Duo's face, sat down heavily on the chair began eating his own breakfast without looking at Duo.
"You are mad at me?" Duo asked, suprised at the reaction he's been given.
"Shouldn't I been? I make you breakfast. I want only what's good for you and you don't appreciate any of my effort. I should be angry, shouldn't I?" Heero looked up at Duo with a questionly look.
"Sorry, you just don't seem like to kind to get angry or anything to other people."
"You are right." Heero lift his lip slightly at Duo's insight. "I'm not an emotional person usually but I read somewhere in the book that this is the right kind of behaviour in this type of situation."
"What are you? A robot just out from a lab somewhere?" Duo asked with sarcasm.
Heero nodded and reply Duo seriously. "I do live in the lab with Dr J but I'm not a robot. I'm a human."
Duo rolled his eyes exasperately and stood up, carry both Heero and his plate of food and dumping the whole content in the bin.
"What are you doing?" Heero asked, alarmed.
"I will make breakfast, real breakfast." Duo answered.
"What's wrong with the breakfast I made. It's nutritional." Heero frowned.
"It probably is. But it's not something I would eat. I would like to eat something I would enjoy."
"Oh." Heero thought for a second, he shouldn't have to always use force to get Duo to do something and what Duo said make sense. "I see. It's acceptable."
Heero sat quietly and watched as Duo prepared the breakfast. From what he can see, some of ingredient that Duo used doesn't seem to have any nutritional value at all. And the proportion is wrong, shouldn't Duo mix it in equal proportion so everything will balance out?
Heero almost wanted to said something but then he saw the shine in Duo's face, he frowned to himself and just stay silence in his seat. And anyway, he had never had anyone cooked for him before and Duo seem to know what he is doing.
He should trust Duo, eventhough Duo had already express his dislike at being married to him, Duo had not done anything harmful to Heero yet. Duo may not like the situation but he did not treat him too bad, and for that, Heero decided that his husband is acceptable and likeable.
"Where's Howard?" Duo asked, suddenly realised Howard is missing.
"He's taking a vacation. He asked me to tell you that he will come back when he wants to."
"Sneaky bastard." Duo muttered sourly and turned back to his cooking.
As soon as the front door closed, Duo's face fell.
What was he thinking? Letting Heero touch his braid, dragging it around and made him breakfast? Didn't he already decided to make Heero's life unbearable?
He probably wouldn't even realise I'm being cold to him even if I acted like one. Duo shaked his head in defeat as he walk dejectedly to work.
Nope, there's no way He is falling for Heero. He will have to talk to him tonight.
"Duo, meeting room three now." Wufei shouted to Duo.
"What's the hurry?" Duo asked, quickly followed Wufei.
"It's about the case we've been following. There may be some lead. Une wants us all there." Wufei replied, opening the door to the meeting room.
"Duo, Wufei." Quatre smiled up from his seat, Trowa nodded in acknowledgement.
"Gentlemen, alright then. The folder in front of you all contains the information that we had obtained from an anonymous source." Une gestured to the closed folders.
"It's not some rubbish, is it?" Duo asked disdainfully as he picked the folder up.
"Take a look." Une replied simply.
"This is definitely something." Duo whistled, eyes shining as he quickly flipped through the document.
"Well then. I'll let you all get to work then." With that, Une stood and walked out the door.
So much for a talk with Heero tonight, Duo thought as he turn and regarded his watch. It's almost 1 am in the morning, any talk would have to wait for another day.
Maybe not, Duo stepped into the well litted room, immediately seeing Heero sitting on the couch waiting for him.
"You don't have to wait for me." Duo said guiltily, suddenly realising he should have called to let Heero know he won't be back home till late.
"I don't mind. I think you would appreciate our first dinner together." Heero turned and regard Duo calmly.
"You haven't eaten?" Duo asked, feeling more guilty.
"Yes, I have. Although I think you would appreciate our first dinner to be together but you haven't called and I'm don't think it's healthy to starve myself. We need to be a healthy couple." Heero replied simply.
"But I'm waiting for you." Heero restated.
"Well, then. I think I'll take my shower and go to bed now. It's been a long day. Good night." Duo suppressed a yawn and quickly walk to the bedroom.
As soon as Duo finished his shower and walked into his bedroom, he stopped at the doorway and stared at his bed.
"Heero, this is my bedroom and the bed you are sitting on is mine." Duo stated calmly.
Heero frowned and corrected. "Ours."
"I told you I don't want this marriage and I have no wish to sleep with you in the same bed."
"We are going to sleep in the same bed." Heero glared at Duo, simply refusing to move.
Duo sighed defeatedly, too tired to argue with a stubborn husband.
"Fine." But I'm not going to do anything with you. Duo added silently to himself while Heero relaxed his glare and got under the blanket.
Duo looked over at Heero as he layed himself on bed, puzzled. Why hasn't Heero tried to do anything? He's not even snuggling up to Duo, or sleeping close.
Duo knew he had the strength to fought again Heero advance if Heero did decided to try anything but this is ridiculous. Heero didn't even try to inititiate any sexual advances to consummate their marriage! And all this time, Heero had implied he will do everything to make their marriage work?
"Heero, what are you doing?" Duo finally asked.
"Oh." Duo replied, not sure what else to say.
"You wanted to talk?" Heero opened his eyes and looked at Duo questioningly.
"No." Despite the thought in the morning, Duo now had no wish to talk. There's seem to be a lot more he didn't know about this Heero. Maybe he should get more information before he had the talk with Heero.
"Hn. Night then." Ignoring the thoughtful look on Duo's face, and since it's way pass his ususal sleeping time, Heero fell asleep instantly.
Duo looked at the man next to him, finger itching to touch the brown hair and the childlike face but refrained himself.
Idlely, he wondered what Heero had been doing at home all day. It must be weird coming all the way here knowing no one. Maybe he can formally introduce Heero to his friends? With that thought, he too fell asleep.
Finally, the case is solved and finished, thanks to the anonymous tips they've been given. Duo sighed tiredly as he walked into his house. He hasn't been there for the past few days and briefly he wondered how Heero was doing on his own.
Duo frowned slightly as he thought back to the search he did on Heero's background. The information is pretty standard in there, nothing suspicious but Duo just can't get rid of the feeling that there should be more.
"Duo." Heero's voice snapped Duo out of his musing.
Duo looked at the said man.
"You want to take a shower and then sleep?" Heero asked from the couch.
"Shower but I don't need sleep now." Duo replied and asked curiously. "What have you been doing this past few days? Did you went out?"
"I'm home. And I did not went out."
"You just stay home all day?!" Duo exclaimed, noticing Heero is wearing the same clothes from the first time Duo saw him.
Did he have any luggage? The question popped up in Duo's head again.
"You are wearing the same clothes."
"No I'm not. I have a few of these clothes."
"You buy the same clothes? How many of these same clothes do you have?"
"Dr J don't usually went out the lab, so usually we just made our clothes. We know our own size. Althought I think Dr J only had two of the white lab clothes. I've got more time, so I made a few more for myself for each day of the week."
Duo rubbed his temple. "Heero, you are wearing a tank top and spandex. This is Earth, you can't wear this all the time."
"Yes, I can. The house temperature can be set." Heero replied stubborn.
"But you need to go out."
"No I don't."
"Yes, you do. I'm going to introduce you to my friends and we are not meeting here. And now, after shower, I'm going to bring you out for shopping. I think I have some old clothes that can fit you." Duo explained as he walked up the stair.
"You are going to introduce me to your friends?" Heero asked, suprised.
Heero stared at Duo back as it disappeared up the stair. First, Duo make him food, and now he's going to buy hime clothes and introducing Heero to his friends. No one had ever paid this much attention to him before, not even Dr J or Odin. But that's understandable, Dr J has more important things to look after, like his experiment. And Odin just can't afford to.
But here, Duo treated him as if his needs matters, as if he deserve it. And yet, he hasn't done anything to really make Duo like him. Sure, he had help Duo with the work, but he had never seem Duo smiled at him. Duo was not happy, even Heero noticed that.
However, tt doesn't matter. He liked this feeling of being looked after by Duo. He had never had anything like this bfore. He never feel something like this before, it confusing but he wanted it to stay. "I just need to try harder." Heero promised himself.
"You readied?" Duo regarded Heero strangely.
"I don't know what clothes you want me to wear?" Heero questioned quietly.
"Come on, we'll find you something." Duo nodded and gestured Heero to follow him up the stair to their bedroom.
Once they were upstair, Duo opened up the door of the wardrobe, he eyes went wide. He hasn't noticed it before since he only picked out the remaining spare shirt and pant from his preventer backpack, otherwise he would have saw it straight away and he knew just exactly who was responsible.
"What happened here?" Duo asked resignedly.
"We should share the space and I figure it would be fair to divide the space in half." Heero replied defensively.
"I get that much, but you hardly had anything in your half of the wardrobe. You don't need half of the space." Duo pointed at the small stack of clothes, 5 or 6 pairs of tanktop and spandex folded neatly at the bottom of the wardrobe.
"I don't have much clothes. But that's not the point." Heero admitted quietly, somehow feeling inadequate under Duo's stare.
"What's the point then?" Duo asked patiently.
"The point is that we should be an equal. I want us to be an equal partner."
"Dividing the space into half does not make us an equal." Duo stated.
"Yes it does."
"Oh, forget it." Duo quickly pull out the old clothes and push it in front of Heero. "Go and get change."
"You are upset with me?" Heero asked, slightly concerned.
"No. Not really." Duo shake his head a few times. "I just have to get use to you, that's all."
"Hn." Satisfied, Heero promptly changed into the clothes in front of Duo.
Duo's face flushed as he stammered. "You could change in the bathroom."
"There's no difference." Heero replied, pulling the pants up and finished dressing.
Duo stared at Heero, as if seeing him for the first time. "How did you survived before?"
"What do you mean?" Heero crooked his head.
"Nothing. Come on." Duo smiled internally, unconsciously grabbed Heero's hand and pulled him out of the door.
"Heero, go on and try on the clothes. I don't care what you said. The only way that I've believe the clothes is fitting is when you try it on." Duo gave his own glare to the stubborn man in front of him.
"Fine." Heero growled and stormed into the store.
Duo sighed. He didn't think shopping would be so hard with Heero but apparently he was wrong. Heero seem to be instinctively weary of people or spaces around him, especially in crowded surrounding.
"Why should I be so nice to him?" Duo asked himself quietly. He doesn't know what came over him. Heero was never what he expected. And there's just something about Heero that make it hard for Duo to hate him. Heero is too naive and at the same time not. There's a conflicting behaviour with Heero that Duo find himself attracted to, no matter how hard he wants to denied it.
"Ok, it fit. Now we know what size you wear, we'll just have to choose the style and buy the same size from now on." Duo stated calmly under the glared directed at him from Heero.
"Hn." Heero stormed back to the change room. He hated not knowing his surrounding. He hated the crowd and the possible danger they would possibly be facing. He wished he had his gun with him.
By the time they finished, both of their hands in full of bags.
"You don't have to buy so many clothes for me."
"You need it." Duo replied simply.
"You are Japanese." Duo asked curiously.
"Ah." Duo spotted a restaurant and proceed to walk into it with Heero following behind.
"What are we doing here?" Heero asked.
"Lunch. And no, we are not going home and cook for it ourself." Duo took a seat and indicated to Heero to take the seat opposite him.
"It's more healthy to eat at home." Heero argued.
"That might be so but I starving, so I need to eat right now. Also, we could talk here." Duo waved the waiter over and quickly ordered the food for both of them, already knowing it's best to order for Heero as well.
"What do we need to talk about." Heero asked suspicously.
"Honestly, Heero. I never lied. And I like you. I've never met someone like you before. You intrigue me. But to say I love you would be too far fetched. I know you are trying hard to make this marriage work but I don't need marriage right now. I don't want a marriage." Duo looked intently at Heero.
"You have something against marriage?" Heero enquired.
"No. I don't but I'm not going to fall in love with you."
"I understand. Dr J has briefed me on a bit of your background. You've had some bad experience before. It's reasonable for you to be cautious. But you will fall in love with me." Heero said confidently.
Duo looked at Heero sadly. "You don't know what I've experienced."
"Duo, I'm your husband. Nothing's going to change this."
Duo was speechless at the conviction in Heero word. He really wanted to believe in it. Believing Heero's word and trust in him. But at the same time, he can't help but questioned the certainty in Heero's statement. How can Heero be so sure their marriage would work. How can Heero be so sure he would never leave him.
As for falling in love, Duo stared at the stubborn face in front of him, it might not be that hard, if he hadn't already.
"Duo." Duo frowned slightly as he turned to the side, wondering who the voice belonged to.
Solo.. and Hilde. Duo face paled.
"We haven't had our food in the restaurant yet. Why are you running away from them?" Heero frowned as he sat beside Duo on the couch in their home.
"I don't want to talk about it." Duo stared straigth ahead as he reply.
"They were your best friends, you three grew up together. You should be happy to see them." Heero pointed out the knowledge he had gathered previously.
"Heero." Duo turned to face Heero. "You don't know anything, so just drop it."
"No, we are going to talk." Heero glared at Duo stubbornly.
Duo glared right back, determine not to give in to Heero this time. There's no glory details or informations he can give. It's all a big misunderstanding on Duo's part. He made a mistake and he is paying for it with his heart.
Silence ensued as they glared at each other. Finally, Duo signed, admitting defeat.
"Alright, I'll tell you. I thought we were in love, Solo and I. But apparently I was wrong, they got married, my best friends. End of story. You happy now?" Duo asked sourly.
"So, you loved him before but you two was never together. But that's no reason to avoid them." Heero stated, ignoring the sudden tightness in his chest.
"I can't help being hurt!" Duo protested.
"Duo. You are stronger than this." Heero pointed out confidently.
Duo could only stared at the complete confidence and trust Heero had in him.
"Duo?" Heero asked questioningly at the stunned Duo.
"Thank you." Duo smiled gently at Heero and said simply. Maybe He hadn't gotten past his previously heartack before. But Duo knew, he's getting better.
Heero smiled back sincerely at Duo, contented with the knowledge that he is finally doing something that can put a smile on Duo's face. Eventhought he was not sure what exactly he did that put the smile there.
Maybe all Duo needs is someone to talk to. Heero concluded as he reviewed the days event and decided he like having the talk with Duo if this is what will make Duo happy.
At night, Heero unconsciously moved closer to Duo, snuggling up the
unfamiliar warmth from Duo. For the first time in his life, he finally
find himself an anchor, a place where he wanted to stay.
This is most infuriating man he had ever known. Duo fumed as he went around vacumming the house. "I take back all the good things I've ever said or thought about him."
"Duo!" Heero growled warningly.
"Ok, I'm cleaning already. Why do we need to clean anyway? The house is clean enough." Duo looked out the back door to the backyard as Heero was hanging up the laundry.
And before Heero can answer Duo asked another question. "Why don't you just use the dryer. Then you wouldn't have to hang the clothes up to dry."
"This is more nature." Heero stated as he hang another clothes up.
"You know, Heero. This is one of my few days off. We could have gone someplace fun and get to know each other more. Instead, we were home, doing household chores." Duo complained.
"We are getting to know each other now."
"Yeah, by sharing household chores." Duo muttered.
"Exactly." Heero replied, picking up the softly spoken word.
"You are no fun."
"I'm not suppose to be fun. I'm suppose to be your husband." Heero stated nonchalantly.
Duo sighed, more resigned with himself for giving in to Heero's persistent again.
"I agreed to this but you are going to come with me to the pub tonight."
"Do we have to go?" Heero frowned, not likely the idea of going to an enclosed space full of people.
"Yes, we do. Quatre, Trowa and Wufei will be there. You can meet them." Duo stated with finality.
"Can't we meet them at home?" Heero tried one last time.
"No." Duo smiled triumphantly back at Heero.
"Come on. It's going to be alright." Hilde gave Solo's hand a gentle squeeze.
"We were trying to give him the best chance in life. In the end, he ended up marrying a man." Solo whispered painfully.
"We can fix it." Hilde forced a smile up at Solo.
They turned back to the front door and pressed the bell.
"Quatre." Solo greeted as the blond haired boy opened the door.
"Solo? Hilde?" Quatre asked, smile slowly appeared on his face. "It's nice to see you two again, come on in."
"Quatre, we just saw Duo. He's married." Solo looked at Quatre sharply.
"He didn't know about it until Howard told him." Quatre said then added, seeing the puzzling expression on their face. "He was drunk."
"Then you should have helped him to get out of this!" Solo shouted angrily.
"No, I think this is good for Duo." Quatre calmly took a sipped of his tea.
"What do you mean no? We did everything just so he could live a normal live like he deserved."
"Eventhough you loved him. Eventhough you knew he was in love with you?" Quatre asked sarcastically.
"We grew up with him." Solo deflated. "We know what he went through. He need normalacy. He need a family, a normal family. We will do anything to give it to him."
"You think so? You don't know him. He might need those thing but he needs you more. But you gave up on him."
"I did not. I did not." Solo murmured painfully.
"Look, Solo, Hilde. I know you both wants what's best for Duo. Heero will be good for him."
"I love him. If he is going to marry a man, he can marry me." Solo declared vehemently.
"You are a married man." Quatre pointed out.
"It's just an arrangement made for Duo. I wants what's best for him also." Hilde explained.
Quatre looked at the two faces in front of him, feeling the pain, love from each of the two.
"What do you want me to do?" Quatre asked finally.
"I just need a chance to talk to Duo." Solo stated.
"I'll get you that chance. But that's all I will do for you." Quatre promised.
"That's all we can ask." Solo smiled gratefully at Quatre.
Trust Duo to ditch him for the house work with the slightest opportunity, Heero grunted, wiping away a sweat on his face.
Strange, he wondered, it's not that hot in the house. Just to make sure, he checked the temperature on the air conditioner. Nothing wrong with it, why is it so hot?
*ding dong* *ding dong*
Startled, Heero looked at the door before moving carefully toward it.
After looking through the peephole, Heero opened the door.
"Solo." Heero greeted the man at the door simply.
"You can't marry Duo." Solo stated immediately, Heero blinked and tried hard to stop the ringing in his head.
"I know how you two got married. Duo and I, we are in love with each other. You shouldn't have interfered."
Heero frowned but said nothing to interrupt the man in front of him.
"Only I can give happiness and love to Duo. You have no right to marry him." Solo stared down at Heero intently.
"Is that all you have to say?" Heero asked simply.
"I want Duo back."
"No." Heero stated curtly and closed the door on Solo's face.
As soon as the door closed, Heero closed his eyes painfully, swaying a little on his feet and backed up a few steps, bumming against the wall of the living room.
He slighed downed along the wall and just sat down on the floor, head hung between the kneel and trying to stop the dizziness swamming over him.
I think I'm sick. Heero thought resignedly.
"Hey, I'm back." The front door banged opened along with the cheeful voice.
Then Duo stopped on his track as he saw the form on the floor.
"Heero, what happened?" Duo asked softly, concerned.
Heero peeked tiredly up at Duo and replied. "I'm sorry, Duo. I think I might be sick. I don't think I can get to the meeting tonight with your friends."
Duo squatted down in front of Heero, hand slowing reaching out to touch Heero forehead.
"You have a fever." He stated after a moment.
"Why haven't you said anything this morning when I got back?" Duo asked, a little angry.
"I didn't know."
Duo arched an eyebrow.
"I've never been sick before." Heero explained further.
"Alright, come on. off to bed with you. I'll bring in the medicine." Duo stood up.
"I... I can't get back up." Heero answered, faced red.
Duo smiled slightly and squatted back down in front of Heero. He put out his hand, adjusted the position for a bit and lifted Heero up.
Duo looked down at the slight tuck with his shirt.
"Duo... are you happy with me?" Heero looked up and asked.
"It's not too bad."
"But you don't want this marriage."
"It's not about you."
"It's about Solo." Heero stated softly under his breath.
"Are you going to be happy with Solo?"
"I... I don' t know." Duo answer hesitantly.
Make up you mind, Duo. Heero wanted to shout at him furioustly. Make up your mind so I know what to do, so I'll know what's the right thing to do. Instead, Heero stated. "Right now, I'm your husband."
Duo rolled his eyes at the obvious statement.
"I'm not doing too bad, am I?" Heero added, seeing the questioning look in Duo's eyes. "Being your husband I mean."
"Not bad." Duo answer after a while, reluctant to admit it out loud.
Duo gently placed Heero on the bed, taking care to tuck him in carefully. Suddenly, Heero reached his arms out, circling Duo neck and pulling his head in.
Heero pressed his lip to Duo's, something he had seen couple on the TV do and released the stunned man from his grasp.
"I'm sorry Duo." Heero looked up apologetically at Duo.
Duo shaked his head, to clear away any thought lingering there and restrained his hand from wanting to touch his lip.
"You don't need to apology. You can meet my friends next time." Duo chose to ignore the sensation of the kiss and replied.
Heero sighed quietly. That's not what he was sorry for. He will not let go of Duo. He will not give Duo back to Solo. Duo belong to him now and until Duo told him to leave, he's going to stay right where he is.
Brieftly, he wondered if Duo will hate him for it. If Duo will hate him for taking him away from Solo. He looked at man looking for the medicine.
"Mmm..." Duo looked at Heero briefly and turn back to the box.
"I won't give you up, not to anybody."
Duo stopped looking through the box and turned his full attention to Heero.
"Am I being selfish?"
"What do I mean to you?"
"You are my husband." Heero answered, not quiet understanding the look on Duo's face.
"Heero, I... what do you want me to do?" Duo asked finally.
Heero looked at Duo, puzzled. "You don't need to do anything."
Duo stared at Heero for a few more moment and turned back to the box without a word.
"Duo? Are you mad with me?" Heero thought for a second and asked.
Heero closed his eyes tiredly, he knew he's missing something here but he don't know how to figure it out. He like this marriage and he wants to make it last for as long as possible. It's that simple and yet, there are things and people making it more complicated than what's it was supposed to be.
And there's something wrong with Duo, as if he expected something from Heero and for the life of him, he couldn't figure out what.
"Duo.." Heero attempted to talk to Duo again and start straight to the point. "Solo was here today and told me he was in love with you too. But I'm not going to give you back to Solo."
Duo started and turn slowly back to Heero. "He's here?"
"Yes, I told him no, I'm not going to give you back to him." Heero repeated.
"Doesn't matter." Duo took the medicine and approached Heero. "Here, take it and sleep."
Heero obediently opened his mouth, took the tablet and closed his eyes to sleep.
Duo just stand there quietly looking at Heero until he heard the soft breathing sound. He sighed and reach out a hand to gently touch Heero's hair.
"Why? Why do you have to be so different? Are you really in love with me?" With a sigh, Duo left the room.
